The Vienna Yearbook of Population Research (VYPR) is an annual open-access, peer-reviewed journal that has been published by the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2003.
Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.-
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- When preparing this manuscript, the authors have adhered to the ethical standards of scientific conduct and, in particular, to the Editorial Policy and Ethics Guidelines of the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research (https://viennayearbook.org/editorial-policy-publication-ethics)
- The submission consists of an anonymized manuscript and a separate cover page.

The cover page file includes the title of the submission, the names of all authors (main author first), institutional affiliation, postal address and email, an abstract (about 150 words), 4-6 keywords, and acknowledgements, if any.
- The anonymized manuscript contains the title of the submission as well as the abstract on the first page. The following pages contain the text of the paper, illustrations (figures, tables, drawings, photographs), notes, list of references, and appendices. All identifying information is removed from the manuscript.

The manuscript file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, WordPerfect, or LaTeX document file format. (Please inquire with the managing editor about other formats if necessary.)

The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics; all illustrations, figures, and tables are either placed within the text or indicated at the appropriate points; all illustrations, figures, and tables are provided in editable form (in an auxiliary file, preferably in Microsoft Excel).
Research Articles
This section features original, peer-reviewed articles presenting new research results.
Review articles
Peer-reviewed contributions providing a broader overview of a selected topic, with a focus on summarising existing research, main arguments and discussions, identifying research gaps and outlining future research agenda.
Data & Trends
Peer-reviewed analytical or descriptive articles that focus primarily on empirical analyses or present databases and data infrastructures.
Perspectives
Peer-reviewed short contributions and essays focusing on ideas, concepts or theories, either discussing existing research or proposing new frameworks and interpretations
Letters & Commentaries
Comments, reflections, updates and critique on the past contributions published in the journal. These can either be brief and focused (Letters) or broader-based and more elaborate (Commentaries) spontaneous contributions, which will be assessed by the journal editors. If accepted, they will be published online and linked to the article they discuss. The authors of the discussed articles may be invited to respond.
Debate
Invited short contributions and reflections discussing selected question or issue. These contributions are assessed by issue editors only. They do not need to cover relevant data and literature in detail and might be speculative. Submission to this section is reserved to authors commissioned by the editors.

The Author guarantees that the submitted paper and all supplementary materials (hereinafter called Contribution) is an original work that has been written by the stated authors, has not been published before, has not been and will not be submitted for review to another journal while under review by the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research and that the Contribution does not infringe on any copyright, trademark, patent, statutory rights or proprietary rights of others; and that he/she will indemnify the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, hereafter called OEAW) against any costs, expenses or damages for which it may become liable as a result of any breach of this warranty.

The Author retains copyright regarding the Contribution above, but agrees to indicate that the Contribution was first published in the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research and to give a bibliographic reference to the publication in any new reprint. The Author irrevocably grants the following non-exclusive rights to OEAW in perpetuity: the right to print, publish, distribute, grant licenses and sell throughout the world said Contribution and parts thereof in all forms and media of expression – such as in its electronic form (offline, online) – now known or developed in the future, as well as to translate, print, publish, distribute, grant licenses and sell the Contribution in any foreign languages and throughout the world, and to store it in databases of any kind. In addition, OEAW is entitled to edit or modify the Contribution in any way, OEAW shall not edit, translate or modify the work in such a way that the intellectual interests of the Author are seriously impaired.
